Superman has gotten rave reviews from fans all over the world; however, some audiences were deprived of specific scenes in the film due to them being “overly sensual.”
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) pulled footage from the James Gunn movie in India amid ongoing debates about censorship, per Variety.
The DC Studios film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. It was released in theaters on July 11, 2025.

Which Scenes Were Cut From ‘Superman’ in India?
Two scenes that were cut from the film in India featured Clark and Lois kissing, per The Guardian. The outlet reported that instead of the kissing scenes, the censored version of the film instead “jumps” straight into what happens next.
One of the scenes in question featured Superman picking Lois up and giving her a smooch mid-air at the end of the film. The kiss lasts 33 seconds.

Superman has a UA (13+ rating) in India meaning parental guidance is advised for children under 13. The scenes were taken out of the movie to comply with India’s standards of the rating. The film is rated PG-13 in the U.S.
Additionally, an eight-second scene featuring Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner showing the middle finger was also cut, per The New York Post. The CBFC deemed it a “foul gesture,” therefore asking the studio for it to be removed, per Bollywood Hungama.
Similarly, a scene showing the middle finger emoji was also deleted from F1, which starred Brad Pitt. The emoji was instead replaced with a fist bump emoji.

‘Superman’ Viewers Expressed Disappointment on Social Media After Censorship
Many expressed their outrage on X about the scenes being cut from the film.
“Dear Board Members of CBFC, you are a disgrace to the film industry,” one person wrote via X. “Emoji censoring was your lowest point, & today, it was kissing (not making out, just passionate/sensual kissing) in #Superman that was cut. Actress Shreya Dhanwanthary reshared a post via X criticizing the cuts, adding, “If this is true, this is RIDICULOUS!!! Some ridiculous crap happens every day. Every. Damn. Day. Sure this is the least of our worries but is something done about anything else? There is some crap every day. Every. Damn. Day.”
“The sad thing is, the people helming the CBFC are from the film industry itself 💔,” one person responded, while another person wrote, “At least 2 abruptly cut scenes. Could only laugh when it happened.”
