Some may have branded LaurenSanchez and Jeff Bezos‘ lavish Venetian nuptials as an ‘Americanroyal wedding‘ – but it turns out that they may have actually taken a page out of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s book after all.
The former journalist, 55, and Amazon tycoon, 61, hosted an extravagant, multi-day event in Venice, Italy, just a few weeks ago, surrounded by over 200 friends and family, including A-listers like Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner and Ivanka Trump.
And while it wasn’t necessarily the most traditional of weddings, it turns out that on the big day,Sánchez took a cue from the Princess of Wales.
She and Bezos made their reception debut to a live performance of Ellie Goulding singingYour Song – the same tune that Goulding sang at Prince William and Katherine’s 2011 reception, perVanity Fair.
The song, which was originally written and performed by Elton John in 1970, is often regarded as one of his best.
John, who was a close friend of Princess Diana, the mother of Prince William, also performed the song during the Concert for Diana, which was a tribute to her life at Wembley Stadium, in 2007.
Goulding, who had released a cover of Your Song, sang a personal version of the tune to the royals during their nuptials – and did the same forSánchez and Bezos, according to the outlet.
She wasn’t the only performance that night in Venice, either -Matteo Bocelli, who is the son of legendAndrea Bocelli, also sang at the Sanchez-Bezos ceremony.

Ellie Goulding, who had released a cover of Your Song, sang a personal version of the tune to the royals during their nuptials – and did the same for Sánchez and Bezos, according to the outlet
Sánchez wore a high-neck, long sleeve lace Dolce & Gabbana gown that took over 900 hours of atelier to make, per Vogue.
The gown featured a flared skirt, long veil, and a tight-fitting waist, with tons of buttons going up the middle.
‘Very Lauren. Sexy, happy, not too serious, not too drama. Elegant but at the same time sensual,’ Domenico Dolce told the outlet about the bride’s dress.
But perhaps it shouldn’t surprise anyone that the Bezos-Sánchez wedding may have been a nod to the royals, as the former news anchor’s brother, Paul, previously compared the wedding to Princess Diana’s.
‘I’m thrilled beyond belief. It’s going to be an amazing event,’ Paul told TMZin a March interview.
‘It’s gonna be star-studded and fun. I think it’s gonna be like a Princess Di thing — just huge and fun and just a blast.’
Princess Diana married Prince Charles on July 29, 1981, in a grand ceremony at St. Paul’s Cathedral, watched by an estimated global audience of 750 million people.
Paul also gushed about his sister during the interview, saying, ‘She has a heart of gold. She’s just a great human being.’
Goulding wasn’t the only performance that night in Venice, either – Matteo Bocelli, who is the son of legend Andrea Bocelli, also sang at their ceremony

In addition to the reception, Bezos and Sánchez hosted a number of other lavish events, like a welcome dinner and pajama-themed brunch party the following day.
They also kicked things off with a foam partyon Bezos’ $500 million yacht, Koru, early in the week.
The couple also showed their guests with gifts, the Royale learned from a source in Italy.
Each guest received hand-blown glassware by local glassmaker Laguna B, which featuresfeatures bright colors, stripes, and floral details.
All of the glasses have different motifs and designs, with one large-size cup running customers $167.
