What Is ‘My Oxford Year’ About?
My Oxford Year depicts the love story of Jamie and Anna, who bond over their shared interest in poetry when she becomes a student at the school. Their romance blossoms as they discover they have similar interests, allowing their connection to flourish as she explores London.
Unfortunately, Anna tells Jamie she has to return home to New York. Unbeknownst to her, Jamie is harboring a big secret of his own — he’s dealing with a life-altering illness — that leaves the pair attempting to navigate their romance in the wake of the heartbreaking news.

Who Is in the ‘My Oxford Year’ Cast?
Carson is no stranger to playing a romantic lead, as she previously starred in the 2022 Netflix drama Purple Hearts. In addition to starring in My Oxford Year, Carson also serves as an executive producer. She explained what went into the decision to cast Mylchreest as her love interest.
“I just thought he was so magnetic and such an exciting actor,” the actress told People in June 2025. “Before he even walked into the room, I knew he would be our Jamie. And that’s exactly what happened. As soon as he walked in and we started reading our first scene together, it was just kind of instant. We just melted into the characters, and it was always that way.”
Many Netflix users likely recognize Mylchreest from his role of King George III in the 2023 series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
“Getting to meet, work, spend time, talk, joke with the cast and crew … they are absolutely crucial to why I think the film is good,” the actor told Tudum by Netflix in June 2025 of the role. “You can expect some laughs, a lot of love, maybe some sadness, a couple of surprises along the way, but [you can expect] to meet two really lovely, very human characters and all of their amazing friends and family. Get ready for a lovely journey.”
Additionally, Dougray Scott was cast as Jamie’s dad, William Davenport; Catherine McCormack was cast as his mom, Antonia Davenport; Harry Trevaldwyn will play Charlie Butler, Hugh Coles signed on to play Ridley, Poppy Gilbert was cast as Cecelia Knowles and Barney Harris landed the role of Ian.

Anna is introduced as a new student from New York and meets Jamie, her professor. Another student calls her out for “flirting with the hot professor” on her first day of school. Jamie shows Anna around the city, and they share many passionate moments together.
The trailer then shifts in tone and becomes a bit more somber as Jamie hints at a big secret.
