The wife of late soccer star Diogo Jota posted a somber message on the one month anniversary of their wedding.
“1 month of our ‘until death do us part’ 🤍,” Rute Cardoso wrote via Instagram on Tuesday, July 22.
Cardoso shared a series of photos from the June 22 ceremony, which came 11 days before Jota and his brother, André Silva, were killed in a car accident. Jota was 28 years old, while Silva was 26.
Jota, a star for Liverpool FC, was behind the wheel of his Lamborghini when it crashed in Zamora, Spain on July 3. Investigators from Spain’s Guardia Civil believe speed was a factor in the crash due to tire marks left on the highway.
Jota and Silva were laid to rest during a funeral service in their hometown of Gondomar, Portugal, on Saturday, July 5.
Cardoso and Jota got engaged in 2022 after years of dating. The couple shared three young children: sons Dinis, 4, and Duarte, 2, and a daughter who was born in November 2024.
Days before the accident, Cardoso shared a series of photos from the couple’s wedding via Instagram.
“My dream came true 🤍,” Cardoso wrote.
Jota commented, “But I’m the lucky one 😍.”
The day before his death, Jota posted a video from the wedding, calling it “a day we will never forget.”
Liverpool FC, where Jota had played since 2020, issued a statement about the loss of their beloved player.
