Gym employee's 'sleezy' act leaves woman scared: 'It's a fireable offense'

A gymgoer is contemplating switching gyms after receiving unsettling text messages from an employee, leaving her feeling extremely uncomfortable.

Samantha received an unsolicited message from a man named Jack, who works at the front desk of the gym where she trains.

When she demanded to know why he contacted her in the first place, the worker confessed he had retrieved her phone number from the gym’s membership file in order to ask her out on a date.

‘Why are you texting me? Sorry I’m not trying to be rude. Just wondering what’s going on?’ Samantha asked after a series of texts.

Jack responded: ‘Nothing’s going on lol just seen you around the gym and wanted to get to know you. Would love to go out for a coffee with you sometime.’

The woman bluntly replied: ‘How’d you get my number?’

‘It’s the number linked to your membership. Sorry I know it’s kind of unorthodox but if I didn’t at least try I would regret it in the long run,’ Jack responded.

‘Can’t blame a guy for shooting his shot.’

Samantha made it clear she was not interested in going out with him, but Jack continued to pursue her despite her refusal.

‘Oh come on at least give me a chance,’ he responded.

‘You don’t even know me yet. Let’s just go out for coffee once and get to know each other a bit and if you don’t want to see me again after that then that’s fine.

‘I’ll pay obv (obviously).’

Samantha politely declined, ‘No thank you.’

Refusing to back down, Jack asked: ‘What’s the downside to going out to coffee one time with me?’

‘I don’t know you and you’re making me feel super uncomfortable especially since I didn’t even give you my number. Please just understand that I’m not interested,’ she explained.

Jack seemed understanding, replying: ‘Ok ok my bad. Wasn’t my intention to make you uncomfortable. See you around?’

However the conversation didn’t end there.

The gym worker sent another text to her saying, ‘You looked super good today. How was your workout?’

Samantha never replied in the hope that Jack finally got the hint.

However, he sent a follow-up text the next night, saying: ‘Can we just start over? I’m sorry I made you uncomfortable before I’ve really been reflecting on it and I’m super sorry. Let’s just be friends?’

The young woman decided to share screenshots of the unwanted messages on Reddit, saying: ‘Guy from my gym keeps texting me.’

Her post was met with more than 590 comments, with many urging Samantha to report Jack to his manager because his text messages are unacceptable.

‘Everything he did was wrong. He needs to be reported to the gym. This could possibly escalate as he is not truly sorry and seems to not understand how inappropriate what he’s doing is. Absolutely, 100 per cent, no second thought – get the gym involved,’ one said.

‘Email your gym now with the screenshots. Let them know you no longer feel safe coming into the gym. You are not the only person this creep is doing this to. Be brave, you got this. You are 100 per cent in the right and the creep bothering you is 100 per cent in the wrong,’ another suggested.

‘Tell management. I’ve worked the front desk at a gym, this is beyond frowned upon, it’s legitimately a valid fireable offense. It’s a breach of trust, misuse of confidential information and aggressive stalking,’ one explained.

‘Super sleazy. Report his actions to the gym and change gyms if possible. This person is not safe to be around,’ another warned.

Many explained how Jack had ‘abused his position’ at work to obtain her personal details without her permission.

‘Personal gym files are not his database for finding hot girls. What a weirdo,’ one said.

‘Very gross,’ another added.

Samantha responded to everyone’s advice, saying:’I will definitely report him. As hard as it is for me to do something like that you’re right, it must be done.’

Meanwhile, one person pointed out: ‘Ok maybe don’t move gyms but this is scary and telling his boss might enrage him, and he might have your address. I don’t know… I listen to too much true crime podcasts probably.’

But many urged her to change gyms over fears he ‘might start following’ her.

‘Ok now I’m scared. Should I really move gyms?’ she said.
