Dr. Terry Dubrow and his reality star wife Heather have revealed how they lost an eye-watering $2 million in a financial scam.
Discussing the incident on their joint podcast Between Us, the couple claimed that they were cheated out of millions by an accountant that was connected to a ‘criminal enterprise’.
Real Housewives of Orange County star Heather said that she was making ‘a lot of money’ at the time as an actress and that Terry was already a successful plastic surgeon when they decided to co-mingle their finances.
‘We were making a lot of money doing our thing, investing, and we had someone in our life, who we thought as a CPA, who was vetted from very high level people, so we didn’t vet him,’ she explained.
Heather later found out that the man wasn’t actually a certified public account – he was in fact just a ‘tax prep guy’ with little experience.
‘He got Terry involved in this scam and it was about renting out these apartments that were then going to be leased out for the World Cup and then make all this money,’ Heather continued.
‘So we ended up losing about $2 million dollars and it turned out to be a scam, the whole thing.’
After that, Heather said that she became more involved in her and Terry’s finances and that the scam was a blessing in disguise, as it made them more savvy and cautious when it came to money moving forward in their marriage.

Despite their financial setback, the couple confirmed that they’re now rolling in dough thanks to smart investments.
‘People assume that we have a certain amount of resources,’ said Terry.
‘We do, and people would be surprised that we have more than that,’ he boasted.
‘I have made a lot of money as a plastic surgeon and you have made a lot of money doing television shows and we have made a lot of money selling houses and real estate.
‘But the reason we have amassed whatever we have is not because of what we’ve made, it’s because of what we’ve done with our money.’
They then credited ‘compounding interest’ as one of the secrets to their financial success.
Last month, Botched star Terry, 66, and Real Housewives of Orange County star Heather, 56, closed a deal on the 9,000-sq-ft Beverly Hills mansion after listing it for $25M in March.
According to TMZ, the property was bought by a non-celebrity from outside the US for $16.5 million.

The anonymous buyer, who had previously been in escrow for the home before backing out at the last minute, toured the sprawling residence three times before making a final decision.
The deal was brokered by real estate agent Josh Flagg while Matt Altman also held the listing. Heather also noted on Instagram earlier this year that she tapped Josh Altman of Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing.
Per Altman, the longtime couple are trading in the sprawling abode for an apartment lifestyle.
Three of their four children have reached adulthood and moved out, and Heather and Terry want to spend more time traveling.
Terry and Heather share 21-year-old twin sons Nick and Max, 18-year-old daughter Kat, and 14-year-old son Ace.
