Inside the VERY glamorous life of Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas' nepo baby daughter

Hailing from two of the most known stars on the planet certainly comes with a slew of perks, and Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas‘ daughter Carys is not shy about showing them off online.

Carys, 22, often flaunts her lavish lifestyle on Instagram, where she has racked up hundreds of thousands of followers.

The nepo baby and Brown graduate plans to follow in her famous parents’ footsteps and has already been integrating herself into the movie and fashion industries.

At only 22 years old, she’s certainly accomplished a lot and has already starred in a short film by the legendary director Spike Lee.

But Carys didn’t always embrace the public eye – in fact, she hated it at first.

Michael, 80, and Catherine, 55, initially chose to raise their children in Bermuda, shielding them from the spotlight during the early years of their lives.

But eventually, the family moved to New York, and going from a secluded island to the hustle and bustle of New York was a hard adjustment for Carys.

She has been open about struggling with the sudden attention and paparazzi trailing their every move – all while her family faced a slew of devastating tragedies.

Michael was diagnosed with cancer, Catherine was hospitalized due to mental health issues, and the couple endured a brief separation in the years after they moved to the States – all under the watchful eye of their millions of fans.

It was certainly not easy for a then-young Carys, but it only made the family closer in the end.

And now, over a decade on, the 22-year-old budding model and actress has certainly learned to welcome the fame.

As Carys continues to make waves, FEMAIL has taken a look inside her very glamorous life… from her whirlwind upbringing to her booming career plans.

Carys’ glamorous upbringing: Michael and Catherine raised their kids in a sprawling mansion but have insisted that they’re not ‘spoiled or obnoxious’

Catherine and Michael, who have a 25-year age gap, started dating in 1998 and married two years later at the Plaza Hotel in New York City.

They welcomed two children together: son Dylan, who was born in 2000, and daughter Carys, who was born in 2003.

The couple raised their children in Bermuda, where Michael’s family is from, for the first few years, and despite being two of the biggest stars in Hollywood, living on the island gave them a chance to shelter their kids from the spotlight.

In fact, Carys once admitted that she didn’t even know her parents were famous during her early years.

‘I thought my dad was a pancake maker.I didn’t know he was an actor. Honestly,’ she toldTown & Countrymagazine in 2018.

While they might not have known about their parents’ fame, the kids enjoyed the perks that came with being the offspring of the rich and famous.

They lived in quite the lavish home. It boasted eight bedrooms, eight bathrooms, sprawling living room, media room, exercise room with bath and sauna, and cozy kitchen with a built-in dining banquette, amongst other things.

The couple later sold the sprawling estate, which also had a swimming pool, tennis court, herb garden, fruit orchard, two-story guesthouse, and caretaker’s cottage, for $10.6 million.

In 2009, when Carys was six, the family relocated from Bermuda to upstate New York, purchasing a six-bedroom, six-bathroom colonial for $5.1 million in a small town called Bedford.

Five years later, they upgraded, selling their home for $7.5 million and moving into a much-bigger $11.2 million 15,000-square-foot mansion that had eight bedrooms, 13.5 bathrooms, spa, steam room, and at-home gym.

The property, which contained a whopping 13 acres of land, also boasted a tennis courts, pool, and equestrian facilities.

Michael has vowed that despite their glamorous living conditions, his kids are not spoiled.

‘We just want them to be good citizens of the planet. They’re not spoiled or obnoxious. They’re well-mannered, confident, pretty worldly,’ he told the Guardian in 2010.

‘We’re old-fashioned parents, they’ve got British nannies and we get nice compliments from people. Our children make us proud.’

Michael previously admitted to being a ‘bad father’ to his son Cameron from his first marriage toDiandra Luker because he was so ‘overwhelmed and overloaded’ with his career.

But he vowed that he made parenting his main priority after welcoming his kids with Catherine.

‘During my first marriage, my career was the most important thing in my life. I clearly know I made mistakes. There were absences,’ he said to the Guardian.

‘From now on I’m going to spend all my efforts on the people I’m closest to. When you’re younger you are so self-involved, self-obsessed.

‘As you get older, all of a sudden, you begin to appreciate relationships, be understanding about the foibles of life, more forgiving – and you’ve got more time for the kids. It makes for a much happier marriage and family environment.’

He also told AARP magazine in 2010, ‘My career was the most important thing in my life, followed by marriage and children.

‘And it’s completely reversed now. I never anticipated starting a family and the joy of raising kids at my age.’

Years of tragedy: Michael battled cancer, Catherine’s bipolar disorder left her hospitalized multiple times, and the couple had a brief separation

The following years for the family were marred by tragedy, as Michael battled tongue cancer in 2010 and Catherine was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and depression soon after.

The actress checked herself into a treatment center in 2011 and again in 2013, and later that year, it was reported that the couple had quietly separated.

Thankfully, they ultimately reconciled, with Michael telling Ellen DeGeneres in 2015, ‘I’m crazy about her… I think every couple has their difficult times.

‘The only problem is, as you well know, we’re all in the public eye and it tends to get a little more exposed than most.But we’re back, stronger than ever.’

Carys has also been open about how she had a complicated relationship with fame after they moved from Bermuda to New York and she was subjected to the spotlight for the first time.

She recalled being hounded by paparazzi during family trips to the city.

‘I used to get really upset. They would jump on the subway and sit right in front of me. I was, like, six [years old]. I was confused,’ she shared with Town & Country.

‘That’s when I knew, “If this is going to be what it’s like, I need to focus on who I really am, and this is going to be something that’s just going to happen, and I can’t do anything about it,”‘ she added.

Michael has also admitted that he’s had some problems with people mistaking him for Carys’ grandfather instead of her father due to his older age.

‘It’s a little rough when you’re going out the doors and the other parents are saying, “Oh congratulations, you must be so proud of your granddaughter,”‘ he said on the Kelly Clarkson Show after her high school graduation.

Despite them trying to shelter her from it at first and Carys struggling with the hoards of paparazzi, she has certainly embraced fame as she has aged.

‘Michael and I would be the first parents to say, “You know, maybe you should think of another career,”‘ Catherine added.

‘But we’ve seen how passionate [she is] about the craft. [Our kids] know what celebritydom is. They know the good, the bad, warts and all that.’

In 2018, Catherine couldn’t stop gushing over how proud she was of a then 15-year-old Carys for the way she handled the pressures to be perfect.

‘She’s got her head on straight. She gets it. She’s helped girlfriends at her school go through issues,’ she gushed to E! News.

‘She comes from a family where we’re really close knit. We talk a lot, we express a lot… she’s a special lady.’

Carys starred in a slew of short films during college, including one from legendary directorSpike called F**k That Guy.

She graduated fromBrown Universitywith a degree in film and international relations earlier this year.

In addition to acting, she’s dabbled in modeling over the years, as she posed in a Fendi campaign alongside her mom in 2021 at only 16 years old.

Carys also seems to have an interest in music as just last month she shared a clip of herself singing an original song, which she captioned, ‘From a song I started writing a bit ago.’

‘Catherine and I are blessed with the fact that our kids Dylan and Carys still like to travel with us,’ he said on the Today show last year.

‘We just finished five weeks in India at Christmastime. And we’re always planning next year, what our trips will be and where we’ll go.

‘It’s just a treat.Especially when you’re not forcing them. [I] said, “Catherine, look, they actually want to hang out with us.” It’s good, we seduce them with good places to go.’

But Carys has vowed that her parents keep her down to earth, explaining to Town & Country, ‘My parents do a really good job of reality-checking me and being like, “Look around you. The life you have is extraordinary.”‘

Carys seems to be extremely close with her mom and dad, with Catherine gushing of their strong bond in 2022.

The actress told Hello!, ‘We are very close – we talk about everything.’

Carys added, ‘It’s really special – I am lucky. We are open and honest with each other.

‘She has taught me all the ins and outs of life but also to have fun and to cherish every moment.

‘Our sense of humor is pretty similar so we are always laughing when we are together. My mother is, honestly, the funniest person I know.’
