Choosing a winter coat is the biggest fashion decision I make all year. A good one will elevate lazy winter knits, pull together whatever outfit I throw it over, and, most importantly, keep me snug on those Baltic winter commutes.
I have a few go-to stores for my winter coat shopping and– because I live in Britain and know I’ll wear it non-stop– I’m usually willing to spend a bit more on the perfect style. I have a great houndstooth sweeper coat from AllSaints that’s lasted five seasons (and counting), and my Frankie Shop Teddy quilted jacket, £245, has earned its price tag tenfold. I’m often wary about less pricey high-street coats looking cheap, feeling uncomfortable and falling apart by November.
Enter M&S‘s new AW25 coat and jacket collection, which has proven me entirely wrong. A quick browse through the store not only proves this is one of the most stylish seasonal releases of recent years, but also (as confirmed by You‘s Fashion Editor, who attended the press day) embodies the quality M&S is famed for.
Stand-out pieces? A deep chocolate crocodile belted trench that could easily pass as Stella McCartney; a feather and down puffer that’s a stylish solution for mums with a winter of sports spectating ahead of them; and a statement cow print jacket that’s sure to make you the envy of the office. What’s more, they’re all £100 or less. Talk about savvy shopping.
